The 27 best seafood restaurants in Astoria (2024)

The restaurant Fish Cheeks specializes in Thai seafood dishes, and it is highly recommended forFans of Thai cuisine will love the selection of dishes on the menu. The atmosphere is casual and family-friendly, making it a great place to grab some dinner with friends. If you're looking for something a little more special, be prepared to wait a while as the servings are quite large.

The overall ambience was very nice. The server was quick and attentive. The crab curry was a bit on the spicy side but very delicious. The fish was fresh and came in its little fish-shaped plate and a little heater. They got lunch time happy hour and both our drinks were good. The crab fried rice really stood out—each grain is individually separated and not gooped up together. Well done !

Definitely lives up to the hype! Hadn’t gone because it’s a little hard to get a reservation day of. But they do save seats for walk ins. The hostess said there was a 45 minute wait but then offered the bar and sat us immediately which was a great surprise! We got the lobster plaa, wings and their signature coconut crab curry. All were delicious. The lobster was very spicy but so many flavors. The wings were so good, dry rub, and I’m not even a wing person but they were so crispy and delicious! The coconut crab had so much crab in it and the rice cooled it down a bit. The staff was so sweet, fun and informative! Would definitely go back! Don’t be discouraged if you can’t get a reservation. Worth a shot to try walk in!Also got 2 drinks and the whole meal didn’t break the bank. Loved it!

In my Quest for the Best we hit another winner. I was just in Thailand 6 weeks ago and this quality is as good as if not better than Thai food in Thailand, although it’s a more fusion style. The crab curry was delicious, best I’ve ever had. The steamed fish was also delicious. Love the chips served with a tamarind heavy version of apparently a Jeow Bong sauce (my favorite Lao sauce) and the pork cheek appetizer was very good. The only thing I would not order again was the Nam Martini. The color is like algae and the taste is a weird, briny, warm saltiness. Still, the wine list is nerdy and wonderful. Check out the strange orange wine selection and the eye popping dry muscat. The only complaint is the noise level. Yes yes it’s NYC and yes yes it’s packed w people, but a few acoustic tiles might help! Can’t wait to return to this excellent restaurant.

A truly authentic Thai culinary experience. Each dish we tried was delectable, rich in Thai flavors and aromatics. The service was exceptional, with the staff being both amiable and knowledgeable. Despite the bustling atmosphere, our orders were delivered promptly and in perfect sequence. As someone well-versed in Thai cuisine, I can attest that this establishment offers an experience akin to dining in Thailand itself, except for the higher prices typical of Manhattan.

Emanuel R — Google review

Really really love this place. The wings were so spicy and good. We also tried the crab curry, pork and crab fried rice. Everything was very flavorful. The service was awesome as well. The bathroom was also very clean and pleasant!

William C — Google review

Possibly the best Thai NYC could offer, though just an ordinary level in Asia. The steamed fish, pork neck, thai tea, and crab rice were all good. Their co*cktail was actually more interesting than the foods.

Sam N — Google review

Fish Cheeks is great! We ordered the “3 crab shrimp”, “pork cheek”, and “steamed fish”. All superb! The one chili spice indicator should be heeded. That is enough to give you a kick but not overwhelm. Everything is very well flavored. We also had the singular desert and the punch drunk love and tongue & cheek co*cktails. All great! Justin was great and helped us pick dishes and drinks. Definitely coming back again!

Terrific Thai restaurant with a focus on high quality seafood — I came here late on a Thursday night, and was surprised at how busy the place was.Once we got seated, we ordered a few co*cktails and some plates to share. The co*cktails were delightfully creative, and had unique Thai inspirations. The curry was certainly on the spicy side, but I absolutely loved the crab.Although the dishes were certainly on the pricey side, I certainly had a great experience and would love to visit again on special occasions.

Very popular and highly rated modern Thai restaurant in Soho. Haven't been back in 3 years so it was time. Ordered the pork cheeks, Manila clams, shrimp entree and crab fried rice. Pork cheeks are a must, and so tender and flavorful. Clams were delicious and crab fried rice had lots of lump crab meat. Highly recommend, and Def make reservations, as they are always crowded!

Vinson T — Google review

Probably the best Thai food I’ve ever had in New York. Service was impeccable, dishes fresh, fragrant and spicy. Having said that, even the most delicious food can’t be fully appreciated if it smells like a dog. Well, to be exact, food smelled wonderful, however, the dog sitting under the next table didn’t, infusing the atmosphere with its aroma.I will definitely go back to try the other dishes. Hopefully, the dog won’t be there.

We went to Fish Cheeks for the restaurant week. Dishes were good however I’d be careful when you order their spicy food. I can generally handle spicy foods and I thought it was very spicy. Their menu tells you the level of spiciness and it’s marked with #s of peppers next to the name of the dish. Very generous portion as well so don’t enjoy your aperitif too much :)

Katcho51 — Google review

If you’re into fish, this is the place for you! It’s got a cool vibe, especially with covered outdoor seating. Service was very friendly. The food was high quality. The pork belly was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The green curry had a rich flavor. Crispy rice salad & pork was okay, a bit hard to make a wrap with the cabbage. Butterfly pea flower limeade was DELICIOUS, both sweet and sour. Overall, worth trying this place!

Rylan G — Google review

We had no trouble getting a table for lunch at 2PM. Friendly staff. We had the chicken wings that were delightfully crispy and citrusy. The crispy pork belly was sweet and salty. A little bit chewy. I like the grilled chilies on top too. The duck curry was fantastic too, just wish there was some stewed carrots or other veggies steeped in the flavorful green spices.I think one appetizer, curry (which comes with rice) and one side is good for two people! Would love to come again.

Alexandra G — Google review

Food is exceptional! Book and get your reservation! We got the most popular dishes: chicken wings to start, crab curry and the whole fish. There is happy hour, even in Sundays! I would come here everyday if I could. Service was friendly. Place was very busy and loud, even in the evening. Food is spicy be prepared. The wings felt spicier than the curry, which changes per chef. Enjoy!!

1. Average 100+ per person. And we even talked about what to eat later before we saw the bill. We even didn’t get full.2. The AC seemed broken, the temperature was crazy high when we eating there.3. I have to say the food was fine, not surprised. Probably because we had high expectations when we saw the high rating, but I think there are more Thai restaurants are delicious with much lower price.4. The reservation policy should be more flexible. They didn’t let us sit in even we arrived 15mins early and the table assigned to us was empty there the whole time.

Jieying L — Google review

Steamed fish is so flavorful, my boys who don't usually like whole fish enjoyed it as well. We also loved grilled pork cheeks and the sauteed cabbage. Great service and casual vibe. Recommend!

WL W — Google review

Really wanted to love it but put oysters were a but suspect and my pork dish came out a bit coldish. Staff was super amazing and we DID love the co*cktails. They were delicious. Overall, we want to give a 2nd shot and try different options for food as we were not happy w most of our choices! To be continued...

Fish cheeks was a great find as we discovered the SOHO district. We absolutely loved the cobblestone street as we approached the restaurant. We didn’t have reservations but the hostess quickly made accommodations for us even bright it was packed. After being seated we were made comfortable and high the highest level of customer service. I asked about the menu as a first timer and began ordering from the suggested “fan favorites”. It did not disappoint!!The shrimp appetizer was full of flavor and quite spicy but I enjoyed every bit of it. If you don’t like spicy, the shrimp as extravagant if scrapped off. Lastly the steamed fish was fresh, full of flavor and dare I say “IMPECCABLE”. I can’t wait to give this place a revisit and try EVERYTHING on their menu. You’re gonna love this place, I guarantee. 🔥🏆🔥

How has this place been off my radar. Every fish lover should go here - it's that good - especially if you are from the Caribbean or just love fish. We had the whole fried fish and grilled macrel and both were amazingly fresh, well fried and grilled with amazing flavors, taste and spice. There may be a small wait without reservations but even if you get a seat at the bar, take it! It's worth it. I have been looking for a good place to go for fish in the city and this perhaps fits my requirements. On top of those requirements are well made drinks. The drinks made here are done quite well and I hope they don't change a thing!

Was recommended to go to this place from my relative in NY and after this meal, I had to go and thank them.We somehow managed to get a walk up table, but I would suggest trying to book a table if you really want to go. It meant that we ate at the bar, but at times, it's the best place to eat.Chickens wings to start, which had an incredible seasoning on them, but we're also perfectly cooked and came away from the bone with ease. The mains were the pork, which was extra hot, so beware, but was extra tasty. The scallops also featured as a main, and were perfectly cooked too, and we're served with plain rice. All in all. A great meal, great atmosphere and would highly recommend. One thing to note. It's not the cheapest menu 😅, but it will be worth it.

Sheyi ( — Google review

The tom yum soup here is the best I’ve had outside of Bangkok. Really amazing how flavorful it is. Perfect balance of spicy and sour. They give a lot of seafood like shrimp, mussels, and fish in the soup so it’s worth the price. Love the coconut crab curry here too, the crab chunks and curry are so good. The vegan curry’s not quite as good but a great option if you don’t eat meat.

Came here with reservations for two around 7:30pm on a Saturday and it was popping. I'd definitely try to book ahead of time. There's a variety of table sizes, as well as seats at the bar. Starting off with some minor annoyances, our table was right next to another, and the gap was so small that someone trying to squeeze into that table ended up bumping into my water despite me moving it from the edge.We were also seated at the table right next to the door, which ended up being a bit of a nuisance. There's a set of curtains that opens from the middle, but people would come through the side, and unwittingly right into our table. Additionally, we could feel the cold breeze from outside throughout our meal.Aside from that, we really enjoyed the food. The two of us got the Shrimp in 3 Crab Sauce, Crispy Rice Salad & Pork, and Isan Style Grilled Chicken. The first two were spicy, but not in a way that made them any less tasty. The grilled chicken came with two sauces that were nice and tangy, but had great flavor on its own.Overall we enjoyed our meal, and appreciated the good service, but in the future we would try to avoid the table right by the door.

Deborah C — Google review

We ordered the pork cheeks, crab curry and the pork neck for two. The pork neck was so flavorful and delicious. I’ve never had pork neck prepared like that. I would come back and highly recommend this place. Their menu is not your typical Thai fare and it is quite unique.

Malissa T — Google review

Food was delicious! The grilled pork cheeks ($17) is a must-try. The famous coconut crab curry ($30) was another delicious option. We also had the grilled Spanish mackerel ($27) and sauteed cabbage ($10). They take their spice pretty seriously here, so be prepared! As for the drinks, we tried the Tongue & Cheek, Nam Gin Martini, Manao Mao, and Bond Street Villains ($17 each, $11 during happy hour) and all were tasty and decently strong. We came without reservations in between meal rushes (~3pm) and had a very short wait for a table of 2. The only downside was the long wait times for our food and drinks; we weren't in a rush, but definitely expect long wait times in between your dishes, especially if you come at peak hours. We also had to wait for our side of rice for so long that our curry got cold while waiting. The table next to ours actually couldn't wait any longer for one of their dishes and just had it taken off their order instead.

It’s our 4th visit today. The food, drink, atmosphere, service…everything about this restaurant 5/5 stars.Absolutely authentic Thai dishes.Fair enough prices for happy hours,Menu looks pretty fancy but it’s worth trying.5starts.

Very delicious fusion Thai food! If you are a spicy lover the curry crab and steamed fish are highly recommended. The co*cktails are Thai special too. Nice staff and good service. Great dining experience with my friends

Wong E — Google review

Pork belly pad krapow was the star of the show, however its was too salty u have to pair it with a lot of rice. The crab curry was good but underwhelming at the same time because of the lack of texture. Oyster were fresh and amazing with the sauce!

Sifrah H — Google review

Very solid place for Thai food, and always delivers. Do make a reservation, as the lines are pretty long. The group favorites are the prawn karee, which goes deliciously with just white rice, and the steamed fish with Thai herbs.Best to come with a friend or more so you can try more dishes!

Some of the best Thai food I've had in NYC. We got the grilled cuttlefish, coconut crab curry, and crab fried rice. All were delicious with unique flavors and a small spicy kick. The wait can get pretty long some nights. We went early and were able to be seated right away.

**Restaurant Review: Fish Cheeks - Where Every Bite's a Party!**Fish Cheeks, nestled in the vibrant streets of NYC, isn't just another Thai restaurant – it's a flavor fiesta waiting to happen! Step into this culinary haven and prepare for a wild ride of taste sensations that will leave you craving more. And let me tell you, our experience with bartenders Zack and Nam was like having our own personal flavor wizards sprinkling magic on every dish.First off, let's talk about the captain of this flavor ship, Nicole. She runs the show with the finesse of a seasoned general, ensuring every guest feels like royalty from the moment they step through the door. Her knack for hospitality is unmatched, making Fish Cheeks feel like a home away from home. Now onto the main event – the food! Picture this: Coconut Crab Curry that's so creamy and dreamy, you'll swear you've been transported to a tropical paradise. And don't even get me started on the Rawaaeng Curry – it's like a flavor explosion in your mouth, with each bite revealing new layers of spice and depth. But wait, there's more! We also dove into the Khua Kling, a spicy beef dish that packs a punch with every bite. And let's not forget about the Isan Style Grilled Chicken, perfectly charred and bursting with juicy goodness. Now, for the appetizers – Shrimp in 3 Crab Sauces. Yes, you heard that right – three crab-tastic sauces that take your taste buds on a rollercoaster ride of flavor. Each bite is a surprise, with multiple depths of flavor waiting to be discovered. And what's a party without drinks? The Spicy Mango co*cktail is a must-try, with its fiery kick and tropical vibes transporting you to a beachside paradise. But here's the real kicker – since our first visit, we've been back not once, not twice, but thrice! And each time, we've brought along friends eager to join in on the flavor frenzy. In conclusion, Fish Cheeks isn't just a Thai restaurant – it's the best darn restaurant in all of NYC! With its fun and casual vibe, mouthwatering dishes, and top-notch service, it's no wonder Fish Cheeks has become our go-to spot for a taste of culinary magic in the heart of the city. And with Nicole at the helm, you know you're in for a dining experience like no other. So grab your friends, bring your appetite, and get ready for a party on your plate! 🎉

The place was super busy during happy your, but we were seated within 15 min. We got 2 dozen fresh oysters with chili sauce and it was super fresh and fire, as was shrimp with garlic. Drinks were very interesting, but it had too much ice. Service was impeccable even though the place was packed. Not the cheapest place but definitely worth it. We’ll be back.

I’m happy to say that @fishcheeksnyc lived up to the hype and everything we ordered was delicious! The steamed fish is a must order, and all the other dishes did not disappoint. A top notch Thai restaurant in the city even with the increasing competition!

I’ll be dreaming about the crab fried rice for forever, it actually might be that sauce that they give you with it but whatever it is, I’ve been thinking about it nonstop. Mouth salivating right now as we speak. Outstanding food, vibrant and cozy vibes. Although food is a little bit on the pricey side but definitely worth every penny.

All I have to say is if you're not eating at this place, you're missing out. Delicious and unique flavors on everything from the appetizers & entrees to the co*cktails. The service is A++ and they're super attentive and friendly. Atmosphere is cozy with good music. Went here for lunch and would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a memorable and yummy meal!

Perhaps one of the tastiest place in the world. The appetizers were amazing - from the corn salad to the most delicious chicken wings ever (They should branch out and serve wings and Thai iced tea only)! The entree of crab fried rice and steamed fish did not disappoint as the fried rice were parallel to Ding Tai Fung fried rice and the fish was super fresh and tasty. Overall, perhaps the best place I’ve enjoyed in the past few years dining across everywhere…completely blown away by this place and good thing not Michelin rated otherwise more people in the queue

I try Thai everywhere I travel. Believe me when I say that the meal at Fish Cheeks is incredible. Everything from the hospitality to the execution of each dish was excellent. We made reservations about a week in advance of our trip to New York. We were seated immediately and given some recommendations on how to order from the menu. A few recommendations from the Kin Len (small dishes/appetizers) and a few more from the entrees. I wish they’d made some recommendations from the sides because the greens we ordered were incredible and a bit hidden in their online menu.We ordered the morning glory (water spinach), steamed fish (branzino in cilantro and lime), crab fried rice, and chicken wings. We also got complimentary shrimp chips and the Thai tea. The morning glory was familiar, with all the flavors we’d expect. The steamed fish was succulent and surprisingly deboned. The crab fried rice was full of lumps of crab and umami taste without too much salt. The wings, dry fried with a zest seasoning reminded me of my travels in Thailand with fall of the bone lean meat.Only 2 things could have been better. I know that digital menus are the new norm, but ordering off of a mobile menu in a dim lit restaurant is tough, especially with an extensive menu that is split up between tabs. Secondly, the steamed fish came with a burner for the steam tray, but fuel was letting off an offensive fume that became frustrating after some time.

Love love love this restaurant. Every time I go even long line for hour it is worth time to wait. Even my friend is one of the partner of the restaurant but when I go, I never tell anyone and getting table as a regular customer. Business is a business so I always follow the rule. It is easy for me to order or ask the server if they have any new menu or something good to suggest because we talk the same language but many of staff there use English. Food remains good as it was before. So no complain and actually good that I come one in a blue moon to see if everything is good. Ps Jennifer S reply as owner of the restaurant I'm appreciated. I always support the local businesses and congratulate if the business growing big.

The food was delightful and even better than expected. The heat isn’t overwhelming and was less than expected for the 🌶️ marked dishes. The co*cktails were creative, complex flavors, but I’ll never do the shots again.I would love to go back and explore more of the menu.

Came here with my friends and we were all happy. They have a great service and vibe.Oyster- happy hour and serve with thai seafood sauce 10 out of 10Zapp wing - tangy and a little spicy perfect crunchy ( ಥ ‿ ಥ ) loveee itCoconut crab curry - the must!!! So delicious the creamy of the sauce and flavorful. 1000% one of my friend is not really like spicy food but she loves it.co*cktails- get the “punch drunk love” it smooth and refreshing

Absolutely loved their old menu and I miss their calamari time to time! Because thats the best calamari dish I’ve ever had/have. co*cktails did go well with food that we ordered! Haven’t been there after they changed the menu and I’m excited to go there soon :)

great happy hour and oysters but the main event is dinner. steamed branzino was the highlight of the night. perfectly cooked, melts in your mouth, so flavourful with aromas of lime, cilantro, garlic and fish sauce. paired nicely with the crab curry and the calamari. wow. what a feast!!

Alison P — Google review

I had heard many praises of Fish Cheeks, so we made it our first stop in NYC last summer. We overlapped with happy hour so were able to get cheaper oysters and co*cktails. The restaurant was bustling at 5pm on a Wednesday. The free shrimp crackers were tasty. The oysters were $18 for a dozen for happy hour. The oysters were not the best I've had, but they were decent and I enjoyed the Vietnamese toppings. The tongue and cheek co*cktail was $11, normally $17. It was quite strong and had a nice lychee flavor. Definitely worth it for the happy hour price. The shrimp in 3 crab sauce was like a ceviche with the flavors of a spring roll. It was good but lacking some dimension. It was mostly sour, spicy, and soft, but could've used some crunch and savory. The calamari was mid, pretty thick breading and sweet sauce. The Zabb wings had a tangy powdered seasoning. They were pretty good but not amazing. The Prawn Karee had tasty gravy sauce. The prawns were big but there were 3 and they were a bit overcooked. The sauce was better than the prawns. The pork belly krapow had a good crispy texture. It was maybe a bit too salty, but overall I did like this dish. The steamed fish had a similar seasoning to the shrimp in 3 crab sauce. It was quite acidic -- could be more savory and spicy for my tastes. The fish was tender.Overall, I enjoyed trying a variety of dishes. The happy hour menu is worth it. Most of the dishes felt a bit one dimensional in flavor and could've packed a stronger punch, but I'm also just not a big fan of these types of flavors in general. I was glad most of it was not overly sweet, though! The restaurant is very pleasant and the service is good.

Fish Cheeks is a solid option for a sit down Thai experience. I didn't have the opportunity to do a full meal there, but from grabbing a seat at the bar I was really impressed by the variety of large and small dishes. The wings and pork cheeks are both flavorful appetizers and great intros into a well balanced array of dishes.

Jonathan P — Google review

This place didn’t disappoint! Curry was spicy, creamy, coconuty and heat warming. Chicken wings and grilled chicken made me do a happy dance! Completely different flavors, both unique and delicious. Mussels were good too, but didn’t blow my mind. Atmosphere is fun and cool. Absolutely must try place! - side note: loved that waiters/bartenders we’re eating alongside customers at the bar and were served food from the menu!
