Ruthless Chaos - The return of RPG (2024)

This is a short introduction to Ruthless Chaos. It will provide you with general instructions on how to set up the game and to start playing.

Screen Layout

Once you are logged into the game, you will see the adventure screen:

Ruthless Chaos - The return of RPG (2)Game Window
The game window is where most of the action is taking place. It shows a part of the world of Elendia, with your own character in the middle.
Ruthless Chaos - The return of RPG (3)Automap
Much like a radar screen, the automap will show you an overview of your surroundings. In the beginning a large part of this map will be dark since you need to explore the area first. The map buttons to the right will allow you to scroll around on the automap.
Ruthless Chaos - The return of RPG (4)Status Bars
The status bars show your current health points (red) and mana (blue).
Ruthless Chaos - The return of RPG (5)Inventory
Right below these bars you can see your inventory. It is divided into several slots for different body parts. Please note that you can put items only in the slot they are designed for, i.e. you can place a shield in your character's hand, but not on his head. The top right slot is reserved for containers such as bags and backpacks.
Ruthless Chaos - The return of RPG (6)Combat Controls
The combat controls consist of six buttons. They determine your character's behaviour in battle.
Ruthless Chaos - The return of RPG (7)Buttons
Several further buttons are arranged next to or below the inventory screen. Some of them ('Options' and 'Help') will open up menus, while others (such as 'VIP' and 'Battle') will open up sub-windows. Clicking on 'Stop' will cause your character to stop any action he is currently taking, while the button 'Logout' will end the game.
Ruthless Chaos - The return of RPG (8)Console
At the bottom of the screen you will find the console through which you can talk to other players. Communication is organised in different chat channels which can be activated by clicking on the little button with the file card in the top right corner of the console.
Ruthless Chaos - The return of RPG (9)Action Bar
In the action bar you can set up action buttons to cast spells or use objects, and see how much time you still have to wait until a spell is available again.

First Steps

Moving Your Character

You will start your adventure on a small island. Simply left-click on the spot in the game window you want your character to go to or use the arrow keys. You can also move your character by left-clicking on a mark on your automap. Some NPCs will mark important points on your automap. However, you can also add own marks to the automap by right-clicking on it and selecting 'Add mark'.

Ruthless Chaos - The return of RPG (10)Context Menu
Right-clicking on an object will bring up a context menu where you can read 'Look' or 'Use'. Select 'Look' to inspect the object, or 'Use' to interact with it. Depending on the characteristics of an item, the context menu will vary, e.g. you can 'Open' boxes, or 'Rotate' a chair.
A context menu will also open up if you click on a character or on an NPC,in which you can select several options such as look, use, follow and even attack.

Talking to NPCs

You can talk to NPCs by entering hi or hello and hitting the enter key. An NPC Channel will open up in which the NPC will talk to you. NPCs in Ruthless Chaos react to keywords. So simply answer their questions or use the dark blue marked words to continue the conversation.

Quests

Quests are jobs or tasks that inhabitants of Elendia have for you. Of course, the first quests you will find will be very basic and easy. If your character gets stronger, also the quests will be more difficult and challenging.
You should really take the time to talk to the inhabitants of Elendia. You will learn a lot about the fascinating world you are playing in that way. With a bit of luck, they will also have some job for you - simply ask them for a mission or a quest. If you complete their quest, they will reward you with useful items or with valuable information.

Attacking Creatures

To fight a creature, right-click on it and select 'Attack', or hold the 'Alt' key pressed and left-click the creature, or simply left-click on the creature in the 'Battle Window'. This will mark the creature with a red square around it, meaning that your character will use its weapon to attack the creature, as long as it is within your attack range. Different weapons have diferent attack ranges. Swords, axes and clubs for example only work in close-combat, while a bow or a wand can shoot from a distance.

Looting Monsters

Once you have killed a creature, you should right-click on its corpse and select 'Open'. To take items left-click on them and drag them onto the bag in your inventory. To check the contents of your bag right-click on it and select 'Open'.
Please note if more than one character helped killing a creature, only the one that made the most damage will be able to loot in the first 10 seconds after the kill. During this time it is also impossible to move the corpse. If a character has joined a party, every member of this party will be able to loot the dead creature.

Using your Rope

Ruthless Chaos - The return of RPG (11)

You will notice that when you start the game, you will have a Rope in your backpack. Ropes can be used to climb up roping spots, which can be identified by a shadow on muddy ground. To climb up a roping spot, simply right-click your rope and select 'Use with'. Then, drag the cursor to the roping spot on your screen and left-click on it.

Experience Points and Skills

As reward for your help, General Mortimer will grant you your first experience points. Usually, experience points are obtained by fighting aggressive monsters. If you have gathered enough experience points, your character will advance in level, which will make him faster and stronger in a number of ways.
In addition to his experience your character also has skills that determine how well your character can fight, fish etc. You will improve these skills simply by using them. To check out your current experience level and your skills click on the 'Skills' button beneath your inventory or press the key combination Ctrl+S.

Trading with NPCs
Some NPCs will offer you the oportunity to buy or sell items. If you wish to trade with an NPC, simply greet him and say 'trade' in the NPC chat window. A new window will open up on the right side of the adventure screen. Press 'Sell' or 'Buy' to see the NPC's offers. Select the item you wish to sell or buy, and then click on the bottom 'Sell'/'Buy' button to confirm the deal.

Combat

Logout Block Ruthless Chaos - The return of RPG (13)

Please note that you should always use the logout button to quit Ruthless Chaos. If you are not allowed to log out immediately, it is likely that you have recently been involved in fighting. The so-called 'logout block' ensures that you cannot escape from a challenge in an unfair way. Remember if you simply shut down your client, your character may stay in the game even if your computer has been switched off. This can be very dangerous so always log out properly in a safe place.

Combat Controls

To the right of the inventory you can see a set of 6 upper and 4 lower buttons.

The three upper buttons to the left serve to set the combat mode. How daring do you want your character to be?

Ruthless Chaos - The return of RPG (14)Offensive
Characters that are set to offensive combat mode will storm into battle, concentrating all their skill on an all-out attack. Because of this, they receive a bonus to their attacks. However, the drawback of such reckless fighting is that a character's defence is reduced as long as he is set to offensive combat mode.
Ruthless Chaos - The return of RPG (15)Balanced
This is the default setting. A character that is set to balanced fighting will divide his skills evenly between attack and defence.
Ruthless Chaos - The return of RPG (16)Defensive
Defensive characters will try to protect themselves as well as possible. Characters can attack while they are set to defensive mode, but their chance to hit will be reduced.

The upper buttons to the right will determine your character's automatic movement during combat.

Ruthless Chaos - The return of RPG (17)Stand While Fighting
This is the default movement mode. Characters that are set to this mode will try to make a stand where they are. They will not budge unless they are pushed aside or until the player moves them manually.
Ruthless Chaos - The return of RPG (18)Chase Opponent
Characters that are set to 'Chase Opponent' will try to corner their opponents. Whenever a target is attacked such characters will try to move as close as possible towards it, taking the shortest way possible. If you are not happy about the way a character is moving, you can easily stop him by clicking on 'Stand while fighting' or by moving him using the mouse or the cursor keys. However, note that if 'Auto Chase Off' is disabled in the game options, your character will resume with the movement mode 'Chase Opponent' once you take the finger from the cursor key.
Casting Spells

By leveling up your character will start learning spells. Spells are cast simply by saying the magic words and hitting the Enter key. For example, if you would like to cast the light spell, you must enter the formula 'utevo lux'. Mana is the energy you need for casting spells. If your mana is exhausted, you will have to wait until you have enough mana to cast another spell. If you do not have enough mana, then you will see a puff of smoke at your character and get a message 'You do not have enough mana'. If you try to cast a spell which you have not yet learnt a puff of smoke will also appear along with the message 'Your level is too low'.
Also, note that the speed with which spells can be cast is limited. Spells have a certain cooldown which is displayed in the cooldown bar. All spells belong to one of the 3 main spell groups: healing, attack or support. After a spell has been cast this spell and the spell groups it belongs to have a certain cooldown during which you cannot cast this spell or a spell of a certain spell group again. If you try to cast a spell while the cooldown lasts, you will receive the message 'You are exhausted'. Note that a possible cooldown for a spell or spell group does not decrease while your character is logged off.
You might like to make it easier and quicker to cast the spells you use regularly. A good way to do this is to assign hotkeys to spells. Whenever you press a hotkey to which a spell is assigned the spell will automatically appear in the entry line of your console, and you can cast it without losing any time.

Runes

Ruthless Chaos - The return of RPG (19)

As you get more adept at using magic, you will need to learn how to create and use runes. Runes are little stones which absorb magic. While the majority of spells work instantly, there is a whole class of spells which only work with these stones. To cast a spell upon a blank rune, the rune needs to be in your inventory or held in your hand as you speak the magic words. Once the spell is cast successfully the rune will change colour and shape.

You can now use the rune like any normal, usable item by right-clicking on it, then selecting 'Use with ...'. Your mouse pointer will turn into crosshairs. Move it on the target in the game window and confirm by clicking on the left mouse button. If you are aiming a rune at a creature, you do not have to click on the creature itself. Simply find the name of your enemy in the battle list and click on it - you will find this will make targeting runes a lot easier.

Runes can only be used once, but you can stack them up to piles of 100. If you have more than one rune in a stack, a little number in the lower right corner beside your rune displays the amount of the remaining runes. The use of runes requires a certain magic level as well as a certain experience level. You can find out the magic level required to use a rune by looking at it, the needed experience level can be looked up in the spells section. The experience level there does not only show the level needed to use a rune, but also the level needed to create a rune.

Death

If your character gets killed, it will reappear safely in the local temple. However, there is a penalty for dying - your character will lose experience and skills.
Also, your character will loose its backpack and has a chance of losing any of the items of his equipment. Characters below level 50 are protected from any kind of item loss.

Blessing

If you want to prevent losing items on death, you may want to be blessed. By purchasing the blessing 'The Power of Wisdom', you will completely prevent your character from losing any equipment or inventory items when dieing. You can purchase the blessing at any priest NPC in any temple of Elendia. The cost of the blessing will depend on your character's level.

General Information

Sending Messages to Other Players

To talk to other nearby players enter any text in the local chat channel and hit the enter key. You can also message players directly by right-clicking onto them and selecting 'Message to' and the name of the character. This will open a channel where you can talk to this player in private.

Trading with Other Players
If another player agrees to trade with you, you can do so by using a special trade mode. Simply place your character next to the player you want to trade with. Right-click on the item you would like to trade and select 'Trade with ...'. The cursor will turn into crosshairs. Now all you need to do is to click on your trade partner. Your partner will now see the offer, and if he agrees to trade, he will offer another item in exchange. If you are satisfied with his offer, click on 'Accept' to complete the deal. If you want to trade several items at once, put them into a container and offer it to your trade partner.Ruthless Chaos - The return of RPG (20)

Stamina

The counter for your stamina indicates the time that is left until a character is too tired to gain experience while hunting. Characters can hunt for up to 42 hours before they no longer gain experience points. In the first two hour, so until you reach hour 40, premium players will gain 50% more experience points. However, during the final 14 hours defeated creatures will only yield half the experience. Moreover, if the character that has dealt the most damage to a monster has only 14 or less hours of stamina left, the defeated monster will not contain any loot.Stamina regenerates while characters are logged out. For every 3 minutes you are logged off, your character will gain 1 minute added to its stamina up to hour 40. For the last two hours, your character needs to be logged off for 10 minutes to regain 1 minute of its stamina.

PvP Combat

Ruthless Chaos - The return of RPG (21)

Be wary when exploring your new surrounding because other players can attack and even kill your character. If you see a player who is marked with a little skull mark underneath his name, you should be careful because that player has recently been involved in violence. Should run into trouble, remember that in protection zones such as temples or depots PvP combat is disabled. Also, any character below level 50 will be unable to attack or be attacked by other players.
Player kills are divided into 2 categories:

  • Justified: Killing a character that is marked with any kind of skull (white, green, yellow, red or black) will result in a justified kill, which brings no negative consequences to your character.
  • Unjustified: Attacking an unmarked character will mark you with a white skull. Killing an unmarked character will result in an unjustified kill. More than 3 unjustified kills in a day, 5 in a week, or 10 in a month will result in your character getting a red skull. Red skulled characters lose all their items on death, and killing them results in a justified kill.
  • Guild war kill: Killing a character who is in a guild that is currently in war with your guild will result in a justified kill. You can check out the ongoing guild wars in the Wars section.
Party Mode

Players can form groups called 'parties'. All members of a party are automatically invited to the party channel. Parties are useful if you would like to hunt with friends as you cannot hurt your party members while using area spells for example. Further you have certain advantages like shared experience or certain party spells.

If you want to form a party, you have to invite another character. Simply right-click on the other character and select 'Invite to Party'. This character can accept your invitation by right-clicking your character and selecting 'Join XXX's Party'. The player who has invited the others automatically becomes the leader of the party. Any further characters that join will become members of the party.
The party-status of a member is indicated by a small shield mark beneath the character's name:

Ruthless Chaos - The return of RPG (22) Leader of your party
Ruthless Chaos - The return of RPG (23) Member of your party
Ruthless Chaos - The return of RPG (24) Leader of the party to which you are invited
Ruthless Chaos - The return of RPG (25) Character that has been invited to your party, but has not joined yet

Please note that each character can only be a member of one party at a time. Furthermore, only the party leader can invite further characters. A leader can pass the leadership on to any other member of the party by right-clicking on a member and by selecting 'Pass Leadership'.

Shared Experience

Ruthless Chaos - The return of RPG (26)To share experience points, the leader of your party must activate this feature via the context menu. If shared experience is activated, an experience bonus of 10% is granted. To activate shared experience, the leader must not have a battle sign and the following requirements need to be fulfilled:

  • Only characters that are of similar levels can share experience when hunting together.
  • The distance of all party members to the leader must be smaller or equal to 30 fields, this works also if you are one floor up or down.
  • Finally, all party members must be actively involved. This means they must either have healed another member or attacked an aggressive monster.
VIP List

Clicking on this button will open up the VIP list ('Very Important People'). You can add up to 100 characters to this list. This is a very useful feature, because by looking on the VIP list you will always know when your friends and enemies are online.

Promoting your character

Ruthless Chaos - The return of RPG (27)Once you reach the experience level of 20, you can have your character promoted. A promotion will give several advantages to your character:

  • Title: Characters receive an official title which depends on their vocation. Thus, paladins will be promoted to "royal paladins", while sorcerers will be appointed "master sorcerers" etc.
  • Improved Regeneration: The regeneration speed of a character's hit points and mana will increase.
  • More Soul Points: Promoted characters have 200 soul points instead of 100. Also the regeneration speed of soul points is increased.
  • Reduced Loss when Dying: Your character will lose fewer experience points and skills when dying.
  • Special Spell: Each vocation will learn one extra spell by getting promoted.

Promotions are awarded by Oswald, who resides in the royal castle of Tindra. Your character must talk to him and ask him about a promotion. If you are level 20 or higher, he will charge you a one-time fee of 10.000 gold coins and promote you.

Houses

Players of Ruthless Chaos may decide to purchase a house for their account. Houses can be found mostly in the human settlements of Elendia. Houses work as protection zones, so any character that is standing in the safety of a house is safe from any attacker. However, as with all other protection zones characters that are standing in houses do no regenerate hit points or mana. In the following you will find a list of all house spells:

  • Buy House: 'Alevo Grav'
If you want to buy a house, place your character facing the front door of the desired house and say the words 'alevo grav'. In case you have enough money to buy it, the cost of the house will be taken from you and you will be the new owner of the house. Note that you cannot purchase houses that are already property of another player.
  • Sell House: 'Alito Som'
If you want to sell your house, simply say this spell while inside your house. All the items you have inside the house will be automatically sent to your depot.
  • Edit Guest List: 'Aleta Sio'
Using this spell owners and sub-owners on premium accounts can edit a list of all characters that are invited to their house. Simply enter the name of any character you would like to invite, making sure only one name is entered per line. To un-invite characters simply erase their names.
  • Edit Sub-Owners: 'Aleta Som'
Similar to the list of invited characters, owners can appoint sub-owners by editing this list. Not only are sub-owners invited to houses, they are also entitled to invite or uninvite other characters to it themselves. Also, sub-owners can kick characters if they wish to do so.
  • Kick Character: 'Alana Sio'
If this spell is pronounced along with the name of a character, this character will be kicked out of the house. Owners and sub-owners can use this spell, but characters can also kick themselves if they wish to.
  • Edit Door Rights: 'Aleta Grav'
This spell allows owners to edit door rights of houses, i.e. they can determine which characters may open or close front or interior doors. This way they can create private spaces within buildings, which is particularly handy in big houses such as guildhalls. To edit door rights the owner must be placed in front of a door and pronounce the 'Aleta grav' spell. Of course, the owner of a house always has access to any room beside the characters listed for a door.
