Peoria, Illinois is a city in Peoria County, Illinois and it is also the county seat. Peoria is the largest city on the Illinois River. The city was found in 1691 by French explorers including Hendrie Tonti which makes Peoria the oldest European settlement in Illinois. The name comes from the Peoria tribe. The city is the seventh most populated city in Illinois and has a population of 115,007 (2010 census). Peoria experiences cold winters and humid summers. Snowfall is common in the winter. There are many historical sites in Peoria and one place you must visit is The Block or Museum Square. This is a $100 M+ projects containing the Peoria Riverfront Museum and The Caterpillar Experience. It is located downtown Peoria along the Illinois River.
